Broke Balance

"Sometimes life is like a bowl of Bun. Filled with a boat load of sriracha that will give you diarrhea"-Nadia

How do you find Balance when you're broke?

Lately, i have been under so much stress. So many emotional events have happened to me in the last 8 weeks, that i feel like i should check myself into a hospital for emotional exhaustion. (I'm not kidding)

This weekend, i felt that i was on the brink of a nervous breakdown and i had to change my life.

I thought about going to therapy to help me stay calm and at peace. Since i am within my 90-probation at work, i technically dont have benefits yet. So- i thought about doing yoga, its offered at my gym. Then i found out the classes are only available the days i'm in school. FML! (seriously someone shoot me!)

So i had to think of a cheap plan that will help me find balance and peace every day....

Meditation, giving, and prayer.

Meditation: meditate in silence for 15 minutes each day.

Give: Give to people with pure kindness so i can be happy.

Pray: Pray every day so i can find peace within my soul.

Although many broke people feel very stressed all the time, we can do things that will help us find balance so we wont go crazy. We are Broke, not privileged in anyway. We have to find ways to vent, to have therapy without costing us a dime, we have to find ways to make ourselves feel good without spending hundreds on materialistic things that are unfulfilling.

I know it seems that sometimes I put out this image that i am a happy girl. But we all have problems. I cry, i yell, i cuss, i get angry, i totally F up sometimes, because sometimes it feels like life isnt fair. Sometimes you loose it more than you should. And other times, you feel like no one cares, like no one is listening, or even looking. But I hope you know that you're imperfections are perfect. As long as you try to stay positive and actively try and change your ways to be more positive, you're already taking a step in the right direction.

So my dear Broke LA friend, i hope that today you find your balance and you don't let people and situations in life ruin the peace in your heart. And if they do, its okay. Just get it back.

heels & kisses,

Nadia

Withdrawal

I just want to be irresponsible & reckless. To blow all my savings, not have a care in the world, & just be a carefree 26 year old girl. Truth is, I've never been reckless & irresponsible. It bothers me, because i wish i had the chance to get it out of my system. Today, i was having withdrawal symptoms. These are just a few things i wanted to buy myself.

I'm having withdrawal symptoms again :( FML. Well, hey- let's look at the bright side... I overcame the urge :/

Spring Break!

Spring break!!!

Nope...I'm not spending time at the beach working on my tan, reading the hit bestsellers... I'm sitting in my living room drinking a beer and doing my homework lol.

So here's to Spring 2011! Let's make way for Summer already!

Around the Waist, Easy on the Wallet

So I finally did it. I finally broke the ONE belt I owned that was normal belt-loop size that actually holds my pants up instead of cinching my waist tight ;)  I've actually had the same cheap belt from H&M for the last 3 years. I bought it when I went to Miami back in 2008 and it broke on Sunday after I came home from church - oyy!

Well here are a few belts that I really liked that I found for less than $25:

Calvin Klein - Skinny belt $23.90
Faux Fur Cheetah Forever 21 - $4.80

Steven by Steve Madden - $24.90
Studded Leatherette Forever 21 - $7.80

Steven by Steve Madden - $19.90

Forever 21 braided belt - $3.50

The belt that broke was about $4, so you can see my dilemma when it comes to spending a lot of $$ on something frivolous (and bordering between necessity and "luxury").  Maybe I can make a decision soon before I need to wear a pair of jeans again ;)

Janea

Broke: The New American Dream

Happy Monday!

Worried about your future? Worried about your $$$?  So am I.  Right now I'm watching a really good documentary about the financial crisis that we're slowly trudging through. Sorry to be a stick in the mud, but it's so relevant, and very important for you to secure your future.

I recorded Broke: The New American Dream on the Documentary Channel, but I'm pretty sure you can find it online somewhere or on Netflix. Take the two hours to learn about what led to the economic downturn (I will be so happy the day I never hear that phrase again)...and if you learn one thing from this documentary, please let it be that you won't believe everything you see and hear in mainstream media.

The other documentary I highly recommend is Maxed Out: Hard Times Easy Credit. This one is a little sadder and made me want to go on a rampage and burn down all the banks lol

See, I love shoes...I love accessories, and I love happy hour...but I love saving money too, and I don't buy another pair of shoes or a new necklace unless I've reached my goal savings for the month which is minimum $150 into my savings account, and after I've already paid the bills necessary for the month.  I'm too chicken to do anything else!!

Check it out, you might learn something new :)

Janea

Too Broke LA Boy

You're not in College anymore! Stop dressing like it! This is the first official post dedicated to young men. Men who are transitioning from College grads to young adults. But somehow their wardrobe hasn't made that transition yet, partly because of the cost of clothes combined with endless amounts of college tuition. Look i get it! You cant get rid of that ugly 'friday night' college shirt. Plaids have been over... so throw that shirt out, along with your 'faded' jeans. I'm going to cut the 'fluff' to my post because i know guys are all about results. So here are 3 looks i pulled together. Casual, date night, Business. Enjoy.

Casual:

Date Night:

Business:

These looks can be found at Zara & believe it or not, Forever 21 for Men. (aka: CHEAP!!!)
