Far from Glamping

I am not an outdoorsy person. I have bad allergies. I don't like bugs or dirt or sweating. I really hate the smell of pine trees. But I am sucking it up to go REAL camping for my bf's sister's birthday. Special day!

Real camping, as opposed to camping I've done before for Laguna Seca Grand Prix. This is going to be real wilderness camping with, like, bears and stuff.

I wish it was going to be like this --

But more than likely it'll be like this  --

It's going to be 82 degrees, probably dry and really hot. I'm really at a loss of what to wear. The only real hiking boots I have are snow boots. I don't have any sneakers that I'd like to "sacrifice" for the quick weekend trip. I *definitely* don't want to wear sandals or anything open toed.

justin westerner lace up boots; wanted ankle hike booties

For national forest camping, should I bring bug spray? Bug candles? We'll actually be inside a cute little pop-up trailer for sleeping, so I don't have to worry about a tent or anything, but I just don't know what to bring in terms of surviving the elements. See how much of a city-dweller I am?

I'll probably end up layering my plaid seersucker/linen shirt over a maxi dress but I still don't know what shoes to wear. Not sure if shorts or leggings are good ideas. I just want to wear cozy, comfortable, easy clothes.

Anyway, I would love any suggestions.

The Postal Service @ Cosmopolitan

I cannot even begin to tell you all how unbelievably excited I am to go see The Postal Service on their 10 year anniversary tour!

source
I spent many a night listening to Give Up til the wee hours of the morning. I remember sitting on front porches and misfit hotel rooftops and driving on the dark and windy Pacific Coast Highway with the windows down and the music way up...singing at the top of my lungs so many moons ago.

This time we're all grown up and going to Vegas, baby. And at the Chelsea Ballroom @ Cosmopolitan no less. Very swanky and very glam. I'm going with my bff and we're gonna have a ball.  OH! And, Jenny Lewis is opening too!

isn't she adorable?

source
Since I'm an obsessive planner I've already scoped out the layout of the place, found some photos of concerts that have already taken place there to see how it looks when it's sold out, drink prices, etc. It's going to be super packed, super hot, and super expensive lol. Hopefully not too crowded since Coachella is the same weekend, so most people will probably be there anyway.

I've got so many ideas of what I want to wear. Most likely it will be some kind of shorts + tank top ensemble because I don't like being hot. Probably resembling the second of Lewis's photos ^^ I get cranky when I'm hot!

If you're going to be there, let me know! I already found out a couple of people I know are going. It's going to be a blast!!

Hearts on Hearts on Hearts

Hello beauties!

I hope everyone had a fab, fun weekend. Nadia and I went to Unique LA's Fake Prom fundraiser.

Some people went all out in their prom garb from cutesy ball gowns to full on 80s puffy sleeved party dresses...the best group was the punk rock prom group in the denim and leather jackets. They looked pretty bad ass!

I tried this dress on because the vision I had in my head, I wanted to look like a giant birthday cake...

Windsor. Too pricey. Too tiny.
But quickly remembered - these dresses are made for 15 year old bodies, not for mid-20-year-olds.

So I wound up going to Nordstrom Rack and found 2 sequin tops, one silver & one turquoise, and I got a simple black maxi skirt at Forever 21. My friend lent me her jacket, and I wore 5" open toe platforms because generally i like being the tallest person in the room :p

My curls would not separate for all the tea in China!
I just did a simple face makeup. Big eyelashes and a gold and bronze smoky eye with a coral lipstick. Good times were had by all...

*****

So running around the mall all day long I saw so many cute Valentine's Day outfit ideas. I love almost anything with hearts on it, and for me, the more color the better. If I'm not wearing all black, I like to mix lots of colors and prints. Dream Valentine's outfit--

mod cloth heart over heels dress || forever 21 heart stud bag (alternate: quilted heart crossbody) || UO kimchi blue pumps || love waist belt || nars falbala || butter london disco biscuit

As for me, I'm going to watch the latest installment of my favorite film franchise of all time -- A Good Day to Die Hard. I cannot wait! I hope you have some awesome plans! Even if it's spent just pampering yourself for a day :]

Everybody Everywear: Back to School (Back to Cool)

I am now in week three of Fall 2012 courses at my new school and I'm having a grand ol' time, aside from being sick. The first day of school I dressed up like this:

Forever 21 Striped Bodycon Dress, $12.80; American Apparel black leggings,  $28;  Sheikh Shoes oxfords; Nars Lipstick  (Sephora); Benefit Sunbeam (Sephora); Dior Show Mascara (Sephora)

Then I discovered that the parking lot I parked in on the first day of school was not as close as it looked on the map and I walked well over a mile in 90-degree heat up and down stairs and through humid open-air hallways and non-air-conditioned buildings and sweat everything off by the time I got to my 9:30 a.m. class.

So ever since then, I have been dressing up in this:

American Apparel tri-blend tank tops; Nike Dri-fit running shorts; Nike Free 2.0 sneakers
I wish it were any other way but it is so hot! Don't get me wrong. I am loving the weather. But just not for the "hiking" I have to do on campus -__-  I don't know how everyone isn't a skinnie-minnie at school. Everything is uphillstairs... wow. My calves are already getting huge.

Back To School | Everybody, Everywear

Lucky for me I found a comfortable, loose-fitting A-line-esque dress at H&M today which cost me about $12 and will be perfect for trekking to class. When I get a chance I will definitely take a pic with it fitted out for school.

I'm also on the hunt for a new backpack. Any suggestions?

Janea

p.s. I just also wanted to say that since today is the anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy I am not trying to be...unpatriotic?? by not doing something ~special~ but it just happened that the EBEW challenge also fell on this date. Peace and love to everyone ♥ ♥

Who Doesn't Love an Inspiration Post?

Other titles I considered: Pretty in Pink (too boring), Bardot Beauty (too literal), Lazy Blog Day (nailed it!)

Anyway I was playing around on Polyvore while watching Valley of the Dolls and avoiding doing homework and I was looking at Sharon Tate but thinking about style icon Brigitte Bardot. Strange how that works, right?  No disrespect to the late Tate, but I'm just being honest :)
Well anyway...thinking about Brigitte got me playing around with the idea of a monochromatic pink outfit, preferably with items less than $50 each. This is what I came up with:

How did I do? I wish I won a prize.  Pink is a nice neutral when worn well. It's not so much as Barbie as it is extremely feminine, but there is nothing wrong with that, right?

I've been fighting the shopping bug SO HARD the last few months. But an outfit like this could certainly change my mind!

Here's to honoring New Year's Resolutions. Womp womp.

Janea

Happy Valentine's Day...and more!

Whether you're single, married, dating, "it's complicated," or what have you, you should send out an hysterical e-card via someecards.com. They are not for the easily offended, and believe me there were soooo many I wanted to choose instead of this one, but you can browse them all here and laugh your ass off.

Today is the Everybody, Every Wear: Pink & Red challenge!  If it were up to me, and if the weather was cooperative, I'd wear something like this:

Pink + Red | Everybody, Everywear

But it's cold outside! And I'm sick (wahh). So maybe I'll still wear my red raincoat and find something nice and pink to wear for EBEW & Vallytines Day.
-----
Oh yeah, today is something else too!  The winner of our giveaway is *drum roll please*

Congratulations Liz! I always see your "likes" on our page too, so that's really awesome that you entered our little giveaway.

Thanks so much to everyone for participating! If you don't see your name on this list it's because I just entered the names of the people who left a comment on the giveaway entry...so...

We'll be sending out your stuff in a recycled Amazon box, so look for it in the mail soon :)

Cheers to you all.

Hipsters, Braids, and Coachella

Hello my lovelies! It has been weeks since i last blogged. I have been working so much lately (6 days a week! And i still have my marathon training :/ Pheww!) I missed you all! Today's topic: COACHELLA!!

I have never been to Coachella. That's because the weekend it's always scheduled on is my son's birthday. But last year when they announced that Coachella would be taking place over two weekends, it was my opportunity to be able to experience it.

So- being the inner "hippie-peace-and-love" girl that i am; i got tickets to one of the most awesome music festivals ever! COACHELLA 2012 HERE I COME!

The hotel is booked, tickets are bought, and one major part that will make my experience complete.... the perfect wardrobe for Coachella!! Here is my wardrobe for the best music festival on earth! YAY FOR ME!!

(My Mexican sandals i bought)

(Top by: Rory Beca for Forever 21 $15.00)

(Head band at forever 21 $3.80)

(Cascading skirt $22 at forever)

(Inka Tote bag $20 at Forever)

I have so many more outfits to post. But for now, i am going for a 'hippie-Aztec-cali girl' style. I am sooo excited. I cannot wait to see Radiohead, Mazzy star, Florence & the Machine, Gotye, M83, Kascade, Swedish House Mafia, Dr. Dre and all the amazing artists who will leave the most memorable impressions :)) I'm thrilled! Cant wait!

Heels & Kisses,

Nadia

Shabby Chic

Eeep! Sorry for the severe lack of updates recently. I feel like the next few weeks will result in another drought (we are in LA after all haha)... Uni transfer apps are due this month, and I also have a few research papers due this month....and just life in general (Thanksgiving, upcoming Holiday Party...etc!)

Today I had a little time to play around on Polyvore and created a set where everything is $40 or less. The skirt is from Top Shop ($20), the tights are from Anthropologie ($14), the shoes can be found on LuLu's or any similar site (at or under $40), and the bag is from Dorothy Perkins ($40). The lipstick is M.A.C. "Frou" (it's beautiful!!!).  And the floral shirt can be found at any mall store for about $15 or any thrift store for $4 - $10.

shabby chic
My favorite thing, of course, are the shoes. I am on the lookout for a comfy pair of brown oxford peep-toe wedges. I don't like buying peep-toe shoes sight unseen because I don't know how my toes will look in them!  But you get the general idea of the outfit.

Tights under a mini-skirt are a fall staple.  You can make the outfit warmer by layering on a cozy cable knit cardigan in any neutral color (grey, black, cream, taupe) or any color popped from your outfit ;).  If you do go bold in your outfit, I would suggest a neutral face...maybe a shimmery natural eye, heavy mascara, nude lip.  Pretty and fresh =)

Until next time!

Janea

Purple & Black

purple & black

Typically I am not a fan of purple, but I really like the color combination with black and other neutrals.  The awesome thing about this outfit is that every piece is under $30. I just got those Leatherette black lace up boots from forever21.com for $28.50 and the top was only $10.80.  I already have the black shorts which I bought at a little cheapy store in South Gate. They were about $7 or $8.  The bag is something I want from DSW and it is $19.99. Purple bangles, purple nail polish and some fun lip gloss really complete the outfit!

I'm actually wearing a variation of this outfit tonight (sub silver for purple) with a black cardigan I got years ago at Target for under $20.  It's fun and young, and best of all cheap ;)

Have a great weekend, lovelies!

XO
Janea

p.s. I'm just trying to pick up some slack since my girl Nadia is vacationing in Costa Rica this week! Ahh!! So jeally ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
